Forestry Department Students Conduct Technical Visits and Interviews at Forestry Directorates

As part of a field study conducted under the supervision of Lecturer Betül Tahmaz from our school's Forestry Department, students from the department conducted technical visits and interviews with forestry directors, forestry chiefs, and forest rangers working in the central and regional organizations of the General Directorate of Forestry.

In line with the applied education approach, students had the opportunity to observe the operation of forestry activities in the field; they gained comprehensive information about professional practices, organizational structure, and current forestry practices. The interviews focused particularly on topics such as mechanization applications in production and transportation, marking processes in forestry, pest control and organizational interventions, registered logging practices, smuggling activities and measures taken against them, forest crimes, and legal sanctions.

As part of their field studies, students also gained knowledge on regionally and ecologically significant topics such as the world's second largest poplar forest, the Yozgat lavender production area, swamp drainage efforts in the Çukurova Delta, the Taurus cedars found in Erbaa, wildlife in Niksar, and the rainfall regime and species distribution in Tokat forests. In addition, the sustainability aspects of forestry work, including forest fires, post-fire reforestation activities, wetland conservation, forest maintenance measures, seedling counting, and reforestation area applications, were explained to the students by expert personnel.

Through technical visits and interviews, students had the opportunity to reinforce the knowledge they gained in their theoretical education with field applications and acquire professional experience. They also had the chance to directly learn about the responsibilities, work areas, and application processes of technical personnel working within the General Directorate of Forestry's organizational structure.

It is believed that these types of academic and industry collaborations make significant contributions to the development of our students' professional knowledge and skills and increase their competence in the field of applied forestry.
